Exactly. The majority of Germans (me included) feel that this sentence is fair. If you jail a 93 year old man till his death for crimes he committed 75 years ago as a teenager because you were told to you aren't achieving anything more than the 2 year suspended sentence. In fact you are punishing his family, who won't be able to spend time with him and didn't have anything to do with the war. The main point is acknowledging the events of WW2 and making sure they never happen again.

My wife gave birth to our first child on a Saturday back in March. Our school system shut down the following Monday. I taught my classes from home for the rest of the year and have since been on summer break. 6 uninterrupted months of time with my son. If they told me I had to go into a COVID disaster waiting to happen like what’s going on in this photo... maybe I’d try to sue, but I would 100% quit. No amount of money is worth endangering my son, and there will (mark my words) be a MASSIVE teacher shortage because of this complete buffoonery.
