I used slightly wrong terminology because I'm lazy but it's mostly coworkers and family that I can't avoid. Yeah. The conservative definition of "anarchist" is "kid who wants to throw rocks and break things and be edgy and shit". I've been involved in countless discussions about this, and it's what it always boils down to. And because they reject any sense of nuance in things they don't personally embrace, all civil disobedience by "others" is anarchism.The problem I have with that argument from them is why does it matter if they are anarchists? Being an anarchist, communist, socialist, fascist, whatever is not illegal so why would the federal government intervene over the local government without being requested to do so? According to my right-leaning friends, all the protestors in Portland are anarchists trying to destroy America. They see this as Trump taking control of the situation. They are cheering him on, especially with his intentions of sending more troops to other large Democrat-run cities. They are chomping at the bit for ways to "eradicate" any Democrats, liberals, or left-leaning thinkers. Granted this is my anecdotal experience, but it's churning my ultra-conservative friends and relatives into a frenzy and causing them to double down on their rhetoric for finding ways to discredit anyone who thinks differently from them. Whether it's intentional or not. And I think it is. I think he's solely focusing on shoring up support from this specific demographic.
